It's Wednesday, so.... CWT

It's rather intimidating the first time you listen to stations operating during the CWT. Morse code at 5 wpm can be a challenge for a newbie. Nonetheless, the elite ops running during CWT are flying at 35 wpm, 40 wpm, or faster. At first it sounds like gibberish.

I've stuck with participating in the CWT each week at the encouragement of those who know more than me. It is starting to payoff. Super fast code sounds slow once your brained is trained to listen properly. In some ways it becomes easier to decode than code sent at slower speeds.

The CWT is a weekly event sponsored by the ham radio club CWops. CWops promotes the use of CW as a mode of operation for amateur radio. There are four one hour contests each week (three on Wednesday and one on Thursday).

It is a rewarding mini contest. Try to listen in today. The CW portions of 20m and 40m usually fill up during the contests. Click here to see the exchange, times, and recommended frequencies.
