Bigfoot is a Ham

Did you know Bigfoot is a ham radio operator? I didn't...

A couple days ago, I was listening to the CW portion of the 20 meter band. I heard a CW POTA (Parks on the Air) station calling CQ (CQ is a code asking for any station to respond). The callsign was W7T. POTA hunting is a great way to entertain yourself while in your ham shack. I almost always respond to POTA calls when I hear one.

So I send my callsign in morse code. I pulled up W7T's QRZ page in the brief moment I was waiting for the station to answer. Click the link to see what I saw! I was laughing so hard I could hardly respond with the standard signal report and my location. In case you don't know, sending telegraphy while laughing is indeed very difficult.

Come to find out the Radio Club of Tacoma is hosting their Annual Bigfoot Special Event in honor of National Sasquatch Awareness Day. There are six stations operating (W7B, W7I, W7G, W7F, W7O, and W7T). The goal is to contact all of them so you spell B-I-G-F-O-O-T. You do have to contact W7O twice. There is a seventh station, W4S, in honor of the lesser known Skunk Ape - who knew!?

Ham radio is a blast. There are many special events such as this one. And the top goals are to have fun, make friends, and enjoy life.
